Allianz Identifying and mitigating insider threats to sensitive systems and customer data
The Allianz Group is one of the leading global services providers in insurance, banking and asset management. With approximately 178,000 employees worldwide, the Allianz Group serves more than 75 million customers in about 70 countries. Allianz is also one of the world’s largest asset managers, with third-party assets of 764 billion Euros under management at year end 2006. To maintain its reputation as a trustworthy leader in its field, Allianz must aggressively and proactively guard customer data.
As a global business built upon trust and reputation, the protection of private customer data is a priority concern. Due to the nature of its business, Allianz must exchange confidential data with hundreds of independent agents and thousands of third parties on a daily basis. While advanced Firewall and Intrusion Detection technologies already provide adequate perimeter protection, the ‘Insider Threat’ has become a major vulnerability for large organisations. Having recognised this vulnerability, Allianz was actively seeking a solution to address these concerns and provide peace of mind. Allianz Indonesia led the way as the first Operating Entity within the Allianz Group to implement SystemSkan as the core solution for mitigating the Insider Threat.
“We evaluated numerous technology solutions that claimed to enforce our ‘Group Information Security Policy’ (GISP) and protect our intellectual property,” said Erwin Purwadarma, CIO for Allianz Indonesia. “We selected Dtex SystemSkan because of its ability to provide an accurate audit trail of all user activities, with integrated tools to proactively detect suspicious behaviour and stop activities that compromise the security of our systems and customer data.”
After implementing SystemSkan in line with an updated Information Security Policy, Allianz has taken real-time control over high risk activities. “Not only are we able to prevent unauthorised access to information, we have also seen a dramatic reduction in the misuse of resources by staff. This has greatly improved overall productivity across the organisation” states Purwadarma. SystemSkan has enabled Allianz to effectively reinforce behaviour that complies with company policy, eliminating situations where there are serious or recurring problems. The company’s security staff can now quickly resolve or escalate any policy violations that do occur, providing evidence of any violation and preventing the breach before any serious damage has been done.
